Buying Burton Snowboards – Reasons Why You Can’t Go Wrong With A Burton Snowboard
June 5th, 2008    Subscribe To Our FeedSnowboarding is one of the most popular sports to do during the winter time. Apart from the actual snowboarding itself, there is also a great camaraderie amongst boarders that is often fully evident in the apres ski activities. Everyone should try snowboarding at least once and cost shouldn’t be a barrier of entry. It is actually relatively inexpensive to go snowboarding, as you can rent most of the gear you need. Once you have tried it and like it then you can start to buy the items you need.
Obviously the first and most important piece of snowboarding equipment that you are going to need to get is a snowboard. You really cannot move on and buy your boots and bindings until you have chosen a snowboard, so this will be the first process you will need to make it through if you want to get started in the sport.
There are quite a few different snowboard manufacturers out there these days so it can be difficult to choose a snowboard, especially if you are just now getting into the sport. One of the most well known names in the snowboarding world is Burton. Most avid snowboarders decide to go with a Burton snowboard, and there are several reasons for this.
Quality
One of the most major reasons that so many people choose a Burton snowboard is because of the high quality. They are all made with the utmost care and are able to withstand the wear and tear that you put them through, even if you go snowboarding on a regular basis.
Price
Every Burton snowboard is very reasonably priced, and you will never find a better quality through any other company. Snowboard in general tends to be very expensive, but when you choose to go with the Burton Company you know that you are making sure that your money is being well spent.
Selection
You will never find more selection than you will with the Burton snowboard line. There are so many different styles and designs, not to mention varying sizes for men, women and children. This means that you will be able to find the perfect Burton snowboard for you, regardless of your personal flair and style.
Whether you decide to go with a Burton snowboard, Burton snowboard bindings or both, just make sure that you take your time to browse through the selection and learn what is available to you before making any final decisions.
Getting more information on snowboards in general, and Burton snowboards in particular, can be done by visiting the online stores or by visiting your local ski and snowboard shop.
In fact, it is probably best to get an idea of the snowboard you need at you local shop first and then look around the internet for the best deal. In this way you can get a feel for the board in terms of weight, size and shape. You can also look at the workmanship and you can ask questions which are not always possible on the internet. However, you may find that better deals are on the internet than in a physical store, unless you go for an older model in a sale or such like.

Snowboard Apparel And Gear
March 19th, 2008    Subscribe To Our FeedGetting your own snowboard apparel makes sense for certain items but is not always a wise option for other items until you know exactly what you want. This article will cover what you really need when first snowboarding and what is nice to have but not essential. For non essential items it gives details of how to get these items without buying them.
Ok, if your budget is really tight or maybe you are just checking out snowboarding then I would advise you rent most of the apparel. And pretty much most of the apparel can be rented. Big purchases should be rented first as this gives you the option to try before you buy.
So equipment like boots and the snowboard are best rented at first. You may also chose to rent a brand or model of board before purchasing it to take it for a test drive so to speak. This way you will know if you like it or it suits your style. People also hire things like goggles and helmets because they are not always needs and are dependent on the weather and type of snowboarding you will be doing.
People even hire snow jackets and pants sometimes but most prefer to buy these types of apparel because they can be used generally rather than being specifically for snowboarding hence justifying the cost a bit more. Also people may be fussy about the style or be squeamish about wearing somebody else’s hand me downs.
If you have decided to get some snowboard apparel I would recommend the following items as necessary.
Snow Jacket, Gloves, snow pants, protection for the eyes
Gymboree Snow Blossom Fleece Jacket Pants size 18-24M
| US $5.50 (7 Bids) End Date: Wednesday Jul-23-2008 19:06:47 PDT Bid now | Add to watch list |
Retired Bitty Baby Pink Snow Jacket American Girl cute
| US $6.99 (3 Bids) End Date: Wednesday Jul-23-2008 21:06:24 PDT Bid now | Add to watch list |
BILLABONG SPRAY SKI SNOW WINTER JACKET SZ L LARGE NWT
| US $3.66 (3 Bids) End Date: Wednesday Jul-23-2008 23:09:52 PDT Bid now | Add to watch list |
HELLY HANSEN wicked waterproof SKI hiking SNOW JACKET M
| US $29.10 (1 Bid) End Date: Thursday Jul-24-2008 4:35:33 PDT Bid now | Add to watch list |
Snow pants, jacket, size 8 boys ( Lot of 4)
| US $44.00 (2 Bids) End Date: Thursday Jul-24-2008 6:32:29 PDT Bid now | Add to watch list |
This next list of items would be nice to have but not essential until you have fallen in love with the sport.
Snowboard, boots, head gear (helmet).
If you suffer from the cold you will also need some under layers to keep you warm. Maybe cold weather underwear and a fleece. Don’t forget the sunscreen too. Your face will need plenty of sunscreen on during a days snowboarding. Your arms may also be exposed if the weather is mild.
When it comes to finding the right apparel you can look in the sports shops or even department stores for the general stuff like the snow jacket and the gloves. The boots and bindings will be found at a good sports store or even a specialist snowboard shop. Shopping in the off season is always a good idea because you can bargain a bit harder on last years snowboard.
A popular way to shop for some snowboard apparel is on the internet. There are many ski and snowboard stores that have great selections of apparel at reasonable prices. Of course it is often hard to shop for certain items online as you need to get a feel for them or try them one. However if you know what you want an online snowboard shop can offer good prices.
for smaller apparel like gloves, hats and scarve you could even take alook at the internet auctions. There are great prices to be found on ebay but factor in shipping costs if you are comparing like for like.
Once you have all your snowboard apparel you are ready to start the fun. If you are new it may take a bit of time to get the basic skills down. When you have these skills there will be no looking back in your snowboarding adventures.

Skis - Some Of The Terms Explained
January 24th, 2008    Subscribe To Our FeedThe design of skis has changed greatly over the past 20 years. The most radical innovation is the shaped or carving ski. The carving ski has made turning easier for people of all levels to the extent that most skis that you see on the slopes will be this type.
Some of the terms you might hear when people are talking about this type of ski are the tip and tail. Obviously the tip is the front of the ski. The tail is the back of the ski. The waist is the middle of the ski. carving skis are differentiated from others by having a sidecut. The sidecut is the arc or curve that is traced from the waist to the tip and tail on the edge of the ski. The longer the sidecut the greater ability the ski will have to carve out turns (or turn easier).
The width of the waist determines how the ski will perform. A thin waist is better on hard snow whilst a thicker waist is better in soft snow.
The flex of the ski is another indicator of performance. By bending the ski from tip to tail you get an indication of the flex in the ski. If the skis are hard to flex then the are generally considered to be better in harder or tightly pack snow. If they are easy to flex they are thought to be better in soft snow conditions.
The binding is placed on top of the ski at the waist. The ski boot fits into the binding. bindings have also come a long way in design. The most important innovation is the release binding. This allows the boot to be released from the ski in the case of a fall. Before the release binding the boot wouldn’t release and this could lead to knee and ankle injuries. The release tension is adjusted by the DIN settings at the front of the binding.
At the back of the binding is the ski brake. When the boot is in the binding the brake points in the air. If the binding is broken the brakes flick down so that the ski sticks in the snow. This is useful, as without a brake the ski may go flying down the mountain which may be dangerous for others skiers and really annoying for you.

Skiing Travel Insurance Will Save You From Costly Medical Bills Should The Worst Happen.
January 16th, 2008    Subscribe To Our FeedI’d be surprised if most people who go on skiing vacations didn’t bother with any form of skiing travel insurance. I guess it depends on how you are taking your ski vacation. If it is part of a package that includes accommodation, skiing pass and lessons there is a good chance that you will be advised to take out insurance. With some companies they insist that you take out insurance knowing that the potential costs you have to face should anything happen would be prohibitive. However if you are getting to the resort by your own steam and have all your own equipment there is a good chance you won’t bother with insurance. Is this a good idea ? Well, probably not.
A skiing (or snowboard) vacation is probably one of the more riskier vacations you can think about doing. I’ve been on quite a few ski trips and have been fortunate enough to never have had more than the odd blister or sunburn. However accidents do happen and I have seen quite a few on the slopes and watched as people are taken down on a ski bed or even a helicopter in some cases. This will obviously cost money, as will the treatment for whatever injury the person may have. They may also have to spend time in hospital if the problem is serious. If there is no hospital in the resort they will have to be transported to the nearest hospital. This will all cost money and for some things, like helicopter repatriation, quite a lot of money. It makes a lot of sense to have this covered by an insurance company.
Strange as it may seem, a friend on mine was actually knocked down by a car when on a skiing vacation. He hadn’t even been skiing yet. I think it had something to do with cars driving on the different side of the road (and possibly a few drinks were involved but that’s another story). This was at night and everything was shut so he had to be transported to a hospital in the nearby town where he underwent scans and was treated for head injuries. He ended up spending a few days in the hospital and never ended up skiing for the whole time. Although he put a brave face on the whole trip, it was a wretched vacation for him. The only positive thing to happen was that all the hospital charges were covered by insurance. He also got something back because he didn’t ski. Had he not taken out ski travel insurance this could of cost him plenty.

Shaun White Snowboards
January 7th, 2008    Subscribe To Our FeedShaun White snowboards are made by Burton and endorsed by Shaun White, in fact he endorses a few Burton products, including helmets, and clothing. He is also sponsored by Burton and rides the Burton Shaun White snowboards, so probably has some input into the design of the boards. He is sponsored by Burton because he is one of the most recognizable and talented snowboarders around at the moment.
Shaun White is an American professional snowboarder since 2003. He has won many awards in both snowboarding and skateboarding. He has won a medal in every winter X games since 2002. He has been mentored and helped in his skating and snowboarding since childhood by Tony Hawks, the respected skateboarder. He credits Tony for much of the skills that he has today.
Given his success in the sport he is an ideal choice to endorse snowboards and also play a part in ensuring that they improve in performance and style.
If you are interested in buying a Shaun White snowboard for yourself, then there are a few different companies in particular you are going to want to consider. The best idea is to check around at your local snowboard equipment and apparel shops and see what they have to offer, most will offer some Shaun White snowboards because they are so popular. You can also try the Internet stores to get an idea of the average prices and the range that is available. Internet stores often offer a discount to regular stores but you have to weigh this against the fact that you can’t touch and feel the board. If you are going down this route then look around the shops for the exact model of board and then order it online.
However, regardless of whether you buy a Shaun White snowboard or other brand name, there are a few things that you are going to have to take into consideration either way. First you are going to have to decide what type of Shaun White – or other – snowboard you want, with the basic choices being freeride and freestyle.
Freeride snowboards are good all-mountain and halfpipe boards and are recognized as being the most popular option, whereas freestyle snowboards are more responsive to the rider and are typically the best choice for beginner snowboarders.
Some beginner boards can actually be a combination of freeride and freestyle, and it is always best to choose a board that will fit your own personal style rather than learning a particular style on a combination board. Most snowboarders learn how to ride on a freeride board and then switch over to freestyle once they are a bit more experienced. The freeride board gives you more flexibility and you will get more use out of it if you are new to snowboarding.
Another consideration for a board is the length in relation to your own height and weight. A longer board will be harder to move but it will have better performance than a shorter board. Thus the choice you have is personal height/weight and snowboarding experience. Whatever you decide to go for Shaun White snowboards are some of the more reasonably priced popular boards around at the moment.

Skiing In Spain – Ski Resorts Throughout Spain For All Levels Of Skiing
January 4th, 2008    Subscribe To Our FeedSpain is not just for summer holidays. There are a wide variety of ski resorts in Spain that have as many facilities as their Alpine rivals and some excellent skiing conditions. Andorra also springs to mind when you think of skiing in Spain and there are some unique benefits to skiing in Andorra, not least that you can get duty free goods there. This article will cover some of the popular ski resorts in Spain and some of the unique charms that skiing in Spain can bring.
The most popular and famous resort is the Baquiera Beret, located in the Lleida Pyrenees about 100 km north west of Barcelona. It is considered the premier resort in Spain and don’t be surprised to see the odd celebrity from time to time. The season in Baquiera Beret lasts from late November through to early April. There is a good selection of runs but most are intermediate – blue and red runs. Thirty lifts operate at the peak of the season and there are plenty of ski instructors and schools if you need to touch up your skiing skills or want your kids to learn how to ski. There are good accommodation, entertainment and eating facilities in the resort.
Of course, in Spain, the Pyrenees are where most of the ski resorts exist. It is the largest mountain range in Spain and has the best snow cover during the winter months. You will find resorts in many regions of the Pyrenees, including Aragonese Pyrenees, Catalan Pyrenees and Andorra.
However you can find ski resorts all over Spain. In central Spain, a popular resort is Valdesqui situated in the Sierra Madrid. This is quite a small resort and the runs are aimed at beginner and intermediate skiers. There are no black runs but experienced skiers will still enjoy the red runs and the beautiful setting.
Traveling north of Madrid you will find ski resorts La Rioja, Alto Campo as well as San Isidro which are all less crowded than those of the Pyrenees. The skiing conditions are excellent after a fresh fall of snow.
Spain is also renowned as having the largest indoor ski resort anywhere in Europe. It is situated to the southwest of Madrid center and ensures you can get some skiing in all year round. However it is not really a challenge for experienced skiers and should only be considered for learning the basics or scratching that skiing itch in the middle of summer. It is called the Madrid Snowzone and is found in the Arroyomolinos shopping complex.
Finally you can ski in the south of Spain, in Andalucia, in the Sierra Nevada. This is the southern most ski resort in Europe but offers a large variety of runs, excellent facilities and good ski schools and instructors. The Nevada range is around two hours drive from Granada.
